Overall****: It's difficult to fairly rate a greatest hits package such as this one. However, the music speaks for itself.
A nice mix of the group's uptempo hits along with a trio of ballads.
Three new songs are satisfying enough (Got to Get You Into My Life was actually released as part of a movie project earlier
in the year, so it was logical to include as part of Best Of: Since it wasn't included as part of any other EW&F albums).
My biggest issue is that a lot of great EW&F music was left out. The songs included were all released between 1975 and
1978. At least "Reasons" was included even though it wasn't a single release. Still Devotion, Mighty, Mighty! and
Serpentne Fire all seemed like logical selections.
On the other hand, another half-dozen selections would be worthy of inclusion here. A two-record set may have been the
way to go from a creative standpoint, but from an economic standpoint, it may have been iffy.
The two single releases made it to the top of the R&B charts. However, one could sense the group was leaning towards
a more commercial sound.
