Overall*** Two of EW&F's musicians Ronnie Laws (Sax and Flutes) and Roland Bautista (Guitars) decided to leave to pursue
solo projects, and they were replaced by guitarists (Johnny Graham and Al McKay) and an excellent saxophonist (Andrew Woolfolk)
bringing EW&F's lineup much closer to the lineup that made its mark in music history.
"Head To the Sky" is an appropriate title for the fourth overall EW&F album, the group's fortunes were
looking up. However, "Head To the Sky" seemed to be a low-budget album, the strings are non-existent, their are
horns and woodwinds on only one selection (possibly because the previous EW&F album "Last Days and Time" used
a large number of instruments and sound effects).
Great percussion and keyboards make up for the loss quite well. Maurice White took more of an active role in the production
of this album as Head To the Sky skates over several music genres, with the true style of EW&F taking precedent over other
musical styles for the first time and it was finally safe to say that EW&F had arrived!
