Writing On The Wall*** (P. Glass): Uptempo and smooth with synthesizers galore, including bass, drums and horns. However spicy
rhythm guitars, a decent guitar solo and the trademark EW&F kalimba sound adds punch to the groove. Maurice White and
Philip Bailey alternate lead vocals with falsetto harmony equal or close to the best ever by EW&F. This moving jam was
released as the flipside of the single "System of Survival" but that's where it ends. It did not appear on the "Touch
the World" album and hasnt appeared anywhere else since.
"Writing On the Wall" can only be counted as a head-scratcher, there are still one or two stronger songs on
EW&F's "Touch the World" album, yet it's still mind-boggling, how a quality song like this could be left
off the comeback album for any group?
EW&F fans and others can only hope that "Writing On the Wall" appears on a future compilation album for
the group, because this opportunity was a missed one.
