Let's Groove****+ (M.White, W. Vaughn, W. Vaughn) - 5:37: Throughout the seventies and though not given much credit for it,
the group's 1980 album "Faces", EW&F initiated musical innovation and setting trends. However, the opening vocoder*
lines of "Let's Groove" displayed not only a more aggressive edge, but also demonstrated that EW&F wasn't too
self-serving to experiment with newer trends in music. The best part is that Maurice White (founder and producer) made it
work and made "Let's Groove" an EW&F classic. The falsetto hook and melodic tenor lead vocals are excellent
(Especially White telling his 747 flying girl, she's lookin' good and outa' sight). Synth bass mixed with regular bass lines,
crystalline guitars, colorful brass. Synth drums mixed with regular drums, the drum pattern is reminiscent of early-sixties
beach party percussion (one-two-three / one-two-three), but it's the perfect drum pattern for this song. "Let's Groove"
thus became EW&F's biggest R&B hit.
