Philip Bailey enjoyed a nice run of popularity with his previous album "The Chinese Wall" and all indications were
that his next effort would continue with another strong effort. Unfortunately, this album didn't live up to expectations,
and disappeared with barely a whimper. In all actuality, Bailey's album "Inside Out" was above average from a critical
standpoint. Bailey expressively delivers nice vocals, tenor and falsetto, the music is well produced (Niles Rodgers of Chic
fame produced Inside Out) it has nice moments. The only downfall may have been the two the singles selected, they were both
decent songs, but not for Philip Bailey. Inside Out touches on several different genres and different groups of musicians
are used, perhaps taking away from the consistency his previous album displayed.
Philip Bailey appeared on the popular television show Soul Train around the time "Inside Out was released and mentioned
the fact that he and Maurice White had already met with each other about EW&F reuniting,"stating that the meeting
was positive. It was only a matter of time.
