Heritage:
After Earth, Wind & Fire enjoyed relative success with their comeback 1987 album "Touch the World" as well
as staying warm by releasing "The Best Of Earth, Wind & Fire Vol. 2" in late 1988, it seemed as if the group
was primed to release a smash.
Drummer/ Percussionist/ Vocalist Ralph Johnson rejoined EW&F in time to appear on the EW&F video "Thinking
Of You" from "Touch the World" as well as renown drummer Sonny Emory. Earth, Wind & Fire enjoyed more time
together for this album. Singer-guitarist Sheldon Reynolds even adds more to this album.
"The Boys", a young new jack sibling act, current popular rapper, M. C. Hammer (Just before he took off) and
legendary performer Sly Stone all contributed to the latest EW&F album.
With all of the ammunition in place, Earth, Wind & Fire appeared to be ready to make history, but unfortunately, the
opposite happened. Heritage was met with a cool to tepid at most reception. Apparently, long time EW&F fans weren't too
enthused with EW&F not staying close to their roots, and the younger new jack audience thought of Earth, Wind & Fire
as too old for their tastes.
Still there are quality songs on this album and one can only wonder what EW&F would have done without the outside
collaborations
