Bad Tune

Home | Reviews
Bad Tune (Instrumental)**+(M. White, W. Flemons, D. Whitehead) Uptempo. Kalimba influenced intro (The first known EW&F recording using a kalimba; although a certain instrumental from "Sweet SweetBacks soundtrack features a kalimba ). The rest is slightly polished brass, potent drums heightened by accentual percussion and a smokin' bass line, offering more clues to what EW&F was capable of. The middle breakdown at first seems un-neccesary. However, it builds nicely. I believe it was performed to showcase, the musical talents of each musician. The short vocal part isn't a highlight though (Ugh-Huh, Yeah, Yeah, WHY?!)

As far as EW&F instrumentals go, "Bad Tune" isn't their best work as it is still a little raw, but it is surprisingly competent compared to the group's best instrumentals.
